Around the holidays, many of us are surrounded many friends, family, gifts, an abundance of food and drink and so much to be thankful for. However, there are also many people who are not as fortunate as us. The holidays is also about sharing and giving back to those less fortunate. As many of you know, I am very involved in non-profit work especially in my Asian American community. I am a volunteer at Project by Project – LA Chapter. We work with and help out other organizations in our community and one of them is the Asian Pacific Women’s Center. They have asked for our help with food, toy, monetary donations and volunteering.

Please take the time to give back to these women and children who need our help and support. Remember, there is always something you can do. Below is more info about the Asian Pacific Women’s Center (APWC) and how YOU can help.

Asian Pacific Women’s Center (APWC), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 1993. Asian Pacific Women’s Center is dedicated to providing a safe haven and support services for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. Their mission is to provide an environment that is sensitive to the cultural and language needs of Asian and Pacific Islander domestic violence survivors and their families, as they acquire the necessary skills and personal strength for self-sufficiency and violence-free lives.

APWC helps every family move into their own residence. The need for secure, affordable, and safe permanent housing for survivors of domestic violence that provides stability for these families is crucial. APWC has partnered with a non-profit developer, Abode Communities, to build a fifty-two unit affordable housing complex in Van Nuys –Ivy Terrace. Fifteen units are dedicated to domestic violence families graduating from the transitional shelters throughout Southern California. APWC is also committed to education and outreach, raising awareness about domestic violence, and fostering violence prevention.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

These are some of the things they need:

Food Donations – Main dishes, side dishes, desserts/birthday cake, beverages for about 20 people

Gifts for the Children – Toys for about 15 children

Gifts for the Mothers – Gift cards or other gifts for the moms ($30+ value of GCs)

They need these items/donations by the 1st week of December 2012.  If you can donate any of these things, please let me know. Also, if you want to volunteer your time, also contact me.

Lots of flavor, time, effort and a WHOLE LOTTA LOVE go into their delicious meats. Everything I’ve had there was well prepared and never dry; from their pulled pork to their chicken, ribs, turkey, salmon, everything! RULES:
