Many people know this but if you did not… I really enjoy eating Malaysian food. I lived in Singapore in 2005 and I fell in love with Malaysian food. I never really ate it or knew what it was until I was there. Now, I constantly miss it and wish we had the amazing hawker stalls here that I ate at everyday when I used to live there. There are very few Malaysian restaurants in LA and that really makes me sad. Not many people in general know how good Malaysian food is! It’s a fusion of Malay, Chinese and Indian. They had “fusion” food before we even called it that.
Luckily, Malaysian Kitchen LA has made it their priority to educate people about Malaysian food. In December they had their 2nd Annual Malaysian Restaurant Week. I went to Belacan Grill in Tustin to make use of a gift certificate I had. Here’s what I ate for dinner.
Roti Canai – I used to eat this almost every day back in Singapore
Malaysian Style Chicken Wings
Mamak Mee Goreng
Daging Kecap Manis
Chicken Curry
Nasi Goreng

I had great dinner that gave me my Malaysian food fix. Malaysian food to me is very similar to Filipino food. It’s more like comfort, soul food. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! As much as I love dressing up and going to fancy places, I also love going to simple but great gems like this. This wasn’t my first time at Belcan Grill nor will it be my last. This is in OC so if you’re looking for a place like this but in LA, I highly recommend Starry Kitchen for your Southeast Asian (Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.) food fix!
